On June 16th 2011 I woke up to live a day like the men in World War 1. We first started with grenade training, later on we started bayonet training. After that we had our lunch. We had a chance to buy strips of blanks and we were able to buy World War 1 helmets. After the display of World War 1 weapons we then geared up for the big battle. Germany versus Canada. This was to see how hard it was to live in the trenches, and to see what these soldiers endured.
I feel sick, my stomachs churning due to the nerve racking moments about to happen. The enemy is almost here, I can hear them. I’m really scared, even though I have my best friend Isaac a few metres from me. I shouldn’t be scared, but I don’t want to die, I believe we can overcome the endless barrage of grenades, but the Lewis gun, that’s going to be hard, but me and Isaac are determined to take that gun.
The lesson I learned in battle is that it was not meant to be fun, it was meant to teach us what the men in the war had to endure. Many people in died the reenacment of this battle, and it makes me sick to think of how many people died in World War 1 and World War 2, as for all of the wars. I think that learning about these incidents that had happened in war
would maybe make people think twice about signing up for the war. If my parents knew about what actually happened at war, I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t let me sign up. I think that there would be a lot of good times like I had at this trip, but there would also be some horrible times that you might not ever forget.
